If you're going to trust JOX, you should know why it exists.
I didn't start JOX because I had all the answers. I started it because I needed them.
My senior year, I lost the basketball state championship. I grew up in a small town where it felt like the whole community was supporting me. Walking off that court, I felt like I had let everyone down; my teammates, my family, my coaches, and everyone who believed in me. I couldn't sleep that night because I couldn't stop replaying the game in my mind.
What scared me most wasn't just losing. Years earlier, one of my childhood heroes had lost a state championship too. I remember hearing he stayed home for two weeks because he couldn't face anyone. Watching someone I looked up to carry that kind of pain made me wonder if that was going to be me.
That night I opened my scriptures. For the first time, I understood that Jesus Christ didn't just suffer for sin—He suffered for heartbreak, disappointment, pressure, failure, and every emotion I was carrying. The championship didn't change. The scoreboard didn't change. But I changed. Christ met me in one of the hardest moments of my athletic career and gave me a peace I had never experienced before.
That's when I realized something I'll never forget: COMPETITION doesn't create who we are. It REVEALS what's already in our hearts. Every athlete has an X. Fear. Pressure. Injury. Comparison. Success. Failure. Competition has a way of exposing it. And because Jesus Christ has already overcome every X, we don't have to carry it alone.
I looked for something that would help athletes connect their faith to what they experience in competition. Something that took both sport and discipleship seriously. I couldn't find it.
So I'm building it.
JOX isn't just a journal or a brand. It's the resource I wish I had after that game. My hope is that the next athlete who walks off the field, court, pool, or track feeling crushed will discover what I did—that their identity was never on the scoreboard, and that Christ is already waiting to meet them there.
